This Strawberry Ginger Smoothie is the perfect Vitamin C packed treat. It’s sweet, fiery and perfect for getting you through this cold season.
How’s your week going so far?
I started a new workout routine this Monday and now three days later my legs still feel like jello. I could probably do with some sort of stair lift to help me get up and down the house. Don’t even get me started on using the toilet. The soreness you get after a good workout is simultaneously one of the best and the worst feelings in the world. I’m complaining, but I’m also not really complaining. Does that make sense?
I’ve also gone ahead caught myself a cold this week thanks to the recent cold snap which presents an entirely new struggle when you can’t stop sneezing and you’ve got sore abs. It’s like a 1,000 tiny needles are piercing my sides with every sneeze. Given the sudden drop in weather and the new workout I think it’s about time I started serving up extra helpings of Vitamin C to keep any further colds at bay starting with the strawberry ginger smoothie. Aww yessss.
About this recipe
If you’ve never tried fresh ginger in smoothies then you’ve gotta go change that ASAP. It adds a different kind of freshness and a whole lotta kick to an otherwise average smoothie. Not only that, but ginger is one of the healthiest foods around that’s great for a number of things including digestions, lowering cholesterol, and reducing inflammation. *hint* It’s also been shown to be effective in reducing exercise induced pain.
You can use fresh or frozen ingredients for this recipe. Of course if you keep it fresh you may want to add a few ice cubes to the final product to keep it chilled. I like to keep peeled, ripe bananas in the freezer to use at a moments notice in smoothies so that I don’t need to add any ice.
I can always throw a whole chunk of ginger in our Blendtec with no problem, but depending on the strength of your blender you may want to mince the ginger first.
Despite the chilly weather outside, this smoothie is perfect for busting colds and giving you a little boost following workouts. You’ll love it!

Thanks, Raia!

What liquid did you use?
Sarah says
No additional liquid needed – the juice from the oranges are enough. If your blender needs a little help mixing it all together though just add a little bit of water to get it moving.

I’m not a huge smoothie fan, but I adore ginger (even pinned this to my Ginger Every Which Way board:) – and so I vow to try this. Especially in cold season, a huge does of citrus fruit and ginger sounds wonderful.

As soon as I read ‘Ginger Every Which Way’ I immediately had to go follow all your pinterest boards. Ginger is the best! PS, I love the ‘still trying to like quinoa’ bit – so funny!
