Easy, one bowl herbed Paleo Biscuits made with nut free flours and including egg free options! Gluten Free + Dairy Free + Vegan Option
Is it weird to identify with piece of food on a somewhat emotional level? I mean…I know the answer to that question but hear me out. And no I’m not talking about pizza – at least not at the moment.
What if said food item has a crusty exterior and a soft, warm interior. It’s also filled with garlic and loves loading up with melty butter….
Alright, I’m going to stop now before I lose you to my poor attempt at humour and metaphor. These herby paleo biscuits need no introduction anyway because one bite is enough to speak for itself anyway.
Let’s get to them!
How to Make: Nut Free Paleo Biscuits
Altogether these biscuits are super easy to make requiring only 10 fairly basic paleo ingredients and only one bowl needed to prep.
Start out by whisking your dry ingredients together in a large bowl them the wet ingredients starting with the whisked egg followed by the oil and water.
You should end up with a thick and sticky dough that will become slightly easier to handle after a minute or two as the coconut flour starts to soak up the extra moisture. If you’re using a flax or chia egg (more info on that below) your dough will be even thicker.
Separate the dough into six sections and begin rolling the dough into balls. Place them on a greased or lined baking sheet and make sure to leave a little room in between each ball for baking. They don’t need a ton of room, but they will grow up and out just slightly.
When you’re all set it’s just a matter of baking and waiting. Easy!
Tips and Quick Questions:
How can I make it egg free?
Use a chia or flax seed egg in place of the regular egg and reduce the amount of coconut flour by 2 tablespoons.
How do you make chia or flax eggs?
Mix 1 tablespoons ground flax or chia seeds with 2 tablespoons water. Stir and set aside about 10 minutes until the mixture gels up and then you’re ready to use it.
Is baking powder really paleo?
Baking powder typically has a little bit of corn starch in it making it technically not paleo. If you’re interested in this recipe being strictly paleo/grain free you can make your own by mixing together by mixing together the ingredients below. You’ll end up with 1/4 cup baking powder. You only need 1 teaspoon in this recipe but you can save the rest for more paleo baking.
- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon arrowroot starch
Can I freeze these?
Yes! Once they are completely cooled, wrap them up tightly in plastic wrap, foil or add them to a freezer safe bag. These will keep for up to two month in the freezer. When you’re ready to use them take them out to thaw. Heat the thawed biscuits in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds on high or warm up in the oven.
Feel free to play around with the added herbs in this recipe: leave them out, add your own, go to town!

Can I use something other than tapioca flour? Can’t find it where I am
Sarah Nevins says
Hi Tia! Arrowroot would be the next best sub, but if you can’t get ahold of tapioca easily that might be tricky too. Beyond tapioca/arrowroot I’m afraid I can’t say for certain because I haven’t tested them yet, but I think potato starch might be a good sub here. Corn starch might also work, but I do think you would need to use less of it to prevent the dough from getting too dry. If you’re open to playing around with the recipe you could try 3/4 cup cornstarch in place of the 1 cup tapioca.
Sorry I can’t be more help here!
